Shariful Islam is known for being a prolific musician, a violinist, and a music teacher. His roots in Indian Classical and Western Classical music alongside folk and jazz makes him one of the most versatile instrumentalists from Dhaka, Bangladesh. His solo performances are mind-melding soothing aural trips falls under the essential must watches.
Currently, he is part of a band ‘Bunoful Quartet’ and has been a former founding member of ‘Joler Gaan’ and has contributed to bands like Shironamhin, Deyalika, Sohojat and also has been a member of the only orchestra ever formed in Bangladesh, Cma Orchestra.
He is a long-standing member of the acclaimed theater troupe and has often played the double role of acting-performing-composing for a number of productions at the Shilpakala Academy’s Experimental Hall.
Sharif’s versatility moved above and beyond with his collaborations with electronic musicians from Dhaka and has been a key core member of Akaliko, a group who advocates and promotes electronic music and a record label. He is working towards his debut EP with the group which is scheduled for November.
As a teacher he is a violin instructor at the Dhaka International Music School located in Agargaon and has years of experience teaching young people at some of the best institutions like St. Joseph’s, SFX Green Herald, Goethe Institut, and many others.
